Research

Here is an introduction to my research endeavors. Research has been an essential aspect of my civil engineering journey as I explored various facets.

IITR

Furthering my interest in engineering, I went for a shadowship under Professor. Bhupinder Singh, an esteemed faculty member at IIT Roorkee. Over the course of a week, I gained access to the lab where I got to experientially learn about concrete and rebar—essential building materials.

I had the opportunity to make concrete with various water-cement level ratios and then tested the compressive strength of different concrete blocks. This enabled me to understand how increased water ratio affects the strength of concrete. Additionally, I carried out tests on the stress and strain of rebar, and then calculated Young's Modulus of Elasticity (E).

This experience helped to understand the field I am about to enter a bit more.

My internship at IIT under Prof. Bhupinder Singh was a defining experience in my civil engineering journey. I worked closely with the Professor, conducting hands-on experiments with concrete and rebar, key construction materials. Through individual testing, I explored factors affecting cement strength, drafting a detailed report of the experiments I conducted.

This internship not only deepened my technical knowledge but also reinforced my passion for sustainable construction. Prof. Singh’s mentorship helped shape my commitment to innovation, particularly his vision of using waste materials to create more sustainable concrete solutions.

Harmonious Home Design
Vastu Shastra and Feng Shui

As I ventured into the world of construction, I wondered about whether Indian traditional models and theories influenced modern architecture and design. Inspired by my house design, I undertook independent research “Harmonious Home Design: A Comparison of Vastu Shastra And Feng Shui From A Sustainability Perspective”.

The main objective of this research was to analyze Vastu Shastra and Feng Shui as different ideologies and then compare them to modern Sustainable Architecture using various parameters such as environmental damage, economic feasibility, and technological advancements. I found that with the growth and influence of technology and science, the impact of traditional customs and beliefs have started to fade away. When the field of house construction is considered, the impact of traditional beliefs have played a more significant role in Asian countries than in European countries. There are numerous concepts such as the Vastu Shastra, Feng Shui, and many more from across the globe. With the development of technology, one seems to have drifted apart from traditional methods and beliefs. The paper was presented in ISRC and published in the JSR.

Presenter, ISRC

  • Presented research at the 22nd International Students' Research Conference hosted by the University of Latvia.

  • One of the few selected Indian students to present

  • Received valuable inputs from professors from across the globe

CREST Bronze Award

I designed effective classroom designs tailored to the needs of autistic students. The work stems from a comprehensive literature review, during which i studied various environmental, sensory, and architectural factors that impact autistic children's learning experiences. My designs aim to create calming, structured spaces that promote focus, reduce sensory overload, and foster independent learning.

These classroom designs have been developed using Sketchup for modeling and rendered in Enscape to provide a photorealistic view. My approach incorporates features such as visual clarity, minimal sensory distractions, and adaptable spaces. Key elements like soft lighting, sound insulations, and ergonomic furniture have been prioritised to enhance student comfort and engagement.

The project earned me CREST Bronze Award, a prestigious recognition from the British Science Association, which acknowledges innovative and impactful work in the field of science and design.
